Access for all: Global Accessibility Awareness Day

Learn how apps can be powerful, inclusive tools.

Accessibility is a fundamental human right, and at the App Store, we’re proud to spotlight apps and games that are accessible for all.

Read on for stories about the best new capabilities of inclusive apps and games:

Unpack a moving experience

App Store Award winner Unpacking takes a common rite of passage – moving – and transforms it from a stressful experience into a meditative puzzler. So it’s no wonder the game’s creators wanted it to be accessible to as many players as possible.

Knowing someone saw you, thought about you, and wanted to portray someone like you – I think that feels pretty powerful.

– Wren Brier, Unpacking creative director

Learn how these AAC advocates use apps to talk

Over the past 30 years, digital augmentative alternative communication (AAC) tools have empowered those who cannot reliably use speech to operate independently and develop a new sense of self.

Three renowned AAC advocates explain, in their own words, how apps have enabled them to educate communities and change the system.

When I discovered communication apps, I realised how empowering they were.

Crack the case

In BROK the InvestiGator, solving mysteries takes brains and brawn. Gather clues by exploring point-and-tap scenes, then switch to action mode to trade punches with snarky robots and sneaky rodents. Indie developer Fabrice Breton added more than a dozen accessibility features, including descriptive audio and alternate controls adapted for people who are blind or have low vision.

Volunteer to help others

Be My Eyes connects people who are blind or have low vision with sighted volunteers who can help with day-to-day tasks, such as identifying the items on a menu or navigating public transportation. Today the app has more than 600,000 users and more than 7 million volunteers around the world.

Discover helpful tools for those with ADHD

By adding structure through routines, focus, time management, task tracking and more, these apps can help everyone’s day-to-day go a bit more smoothly. These picks are also especially useful for those of us who absorb information differently.

Play your way

With features such as VoiceOver support, customisable controls, dyslexia-friendly fonts and adjustable difficulty settings, these games are accessible to everyone.
