Description

You are afloat on an interactive audio-ocean. Sound fragments of facts, statements, re-created dialogues, names of captains, statistics, commentaries from the time arises out of the liquid depths and spiral in to you. Upon this audio sea float the ghosts of 9 ships once engaged in the trans-Atlantic trafficking of enslaved Africans. Each of these ships represents one facet of this horrendous trade. You can "board" the ships and listen to what they have to say. This is a work of sound art and not an historical guide.

It extends all the way along the historic Broadquay from the Colston plinth (where the statue of Edward Colston used to stand) to the other end of Pero’s Bridge (the historic Broad Quay), which is where the Colston statue was flung into the waters of the Bristol Floating Harbour by protestors on 7 June 2020.
