Keep your cartoon car racing around loops, barrelling through the air and backflipping off ramps until it gets wrecked. That’s the plan in, um, REKT! – a colourful stunt game which hands you the keys to a car, drops you into a skatepark-like arena and asks you to make it up from there.
Your only opponents are the countdown timer and the arena itself. When your time’s up, your run is over, and if you slam into a wall or land on your roof, you’ll lose your accumulated score.
The car accelerates all by itself, so your job is to try and keep it all under control by tapping left or right to steer, and swiping in any direction when you’re airborne to spin or flip.
And you’ll keep spinning and flipping unless you hold your finger on the screen to stop it. With these simple commands at your disposal, the task is to line up a run of flashy tricks for a big score.
That’s easier said than done, of course. Wipe out midway around a loop and you’re propelled into the air with no idea of where the ground went; fumble a jump and you might splat straight into a wall; fail to control your spinning, flipping vehicle in the air and you’ll land on your roof. Ouch. REKT!
Like an old Tony Hawk Pro Skater game, it’s about chaining together jumps, spins and other hilariously dangerous tricks to bank a high-scoring combo.
It all earns you currency, and completing the little objectives that pop up at the start of each run gifts you more to spend on your next ride. There are vehicles of different shapes and sizes to unlock and get used to, as well.
REKT! will pull you back in for another round again and again, and high-score chasers will want to see their name in lights on the leaderboard. This is a simple but incredibly moreish game; if you’re looking for action tonight, you might as well get REKT!
