Bullet Hell Monday is a hilariously OTT blaster.

Bullet Hell Monday

Shmup for everyone

Mondays, right? Not only is the weekend over, but the moment you step out the door you’re accosted by hundreds upon hundreds of enemies whose sole goal in life is your complete and utter destruction. Not to mention having to dodge thousands of projectiles. And then when you finally do get to work, the coffee machine is out of order. Ugh!

To be fair, this particular experience might not sound familiar to many people, but we’ve been playing a lot of Bullet Hell Monday. This little gem harks back to the days that top-down shooters could be best described with the word 'relentless'.

Like in all of those shooters, you control a tiny ship who has to survive wave after wave of enemies that blast out hundreds of bullets – hence the ‘hell’ part of the name. What makes Bullet Hell Monday so special is the controls.

Similar types of games offer user interfaces that try to make you feel you're in total control. This particular title, however, achieves that goal in the most elegant way; making sure you've no one but yourself to blame when you – inevitably – die.

Between levels you can use earned ‘AP’ (points that you aquire through solid performances) to upgrade your ship and unlock new weapons so life gets a little more manageable. Don’t think it’ll ever be a cakewalk, though: this game starts out hard and only gets harder from there. Even the easy mode is no joke. But that makes it all the more satisfying when you nail that tough level.

So yes, it’s safe to say our Mondays are a bit rougher than usual. But we love it.

Oh, and by the way, the coffee machine is still out of order.
