Effortlessly keep a digital record of your hours spent outside with the Official 1000 Hours Outside app. Easy timer functionality - just open the app and click play to start the timer, then put the phone down and enjoy the outdoors! The app will track your time in the background so you don't have to think about it. Keep a journal of your adventures by jotting down notes and uploading photos, add up to nine additional profiles to track individual hours for members of your family, and unlock hours milestone badges to share on social media.

You can also upgrade to a monthly or yearly subscription to access the Adventure Maps feature, which highlights family-friendly attributes of various locations. You can even easily see where other 1KHO app users have checked in and left reviews to help you better plan your own adventures!

Disappointing, Limited Features, Pricey

I’ve been using a different tracker in previous years but decided to use the official tracker this year. It honestly feels like a bit of a cash grab. Have to buy the initial app, features are very limited, and if you want to unlock badges as your hours increase, you have to buy that ability too. This app is only good for counting hours outside, so I should have stuck to my previous method with a different, more versatile tracker that allows me to manage other lifestyle habits too. It’s also mildly annoying adding in hours throughout the day, when you’re not using the stopwatch, but adding manual entries. You will have to total the hours yourself. Sounds easy, but when you’re out and about with several young kids, it’s hard to remember anything! Disappointing app but it has potential so I’ll stick it out and hope for updates (since surely they’re getting enough money from downloads!).
