Collection of Health data such as calories burned and heart rate requires an Apple Watch or other Apple Health connected device.

Arc is only awake and using GPS when you are active and moving. For the rest of the day Arc stays in a low power sleep mode, with GPS turned off, to conserve battery.

On a typical day of two to three hours of travel a single full battery charge should last from morning to evening without requiring extra recharging during the day. However longer trips (for example a long hike or cross country drive) may consume more than expected battery, due to Arc needing to be awake and recording, with GPS activated, for the duration of the trip.

For longer trips, I recommend plugging your phone into a car charger or battery pack, to avoid unpleasant battery surprises.

A free trial, active subscription, or Lifetime purchase is required to use the app.

## Subscription Details

Your subscription will be charged to your iTunes account. At the end of the term your subscription will automatically renew in your iTunes account. You can turn off automatic renewal in your iTunes account settings at any time, but you must do so at least 24 hours before the end of the current term.

Arc records orders of magnitude more data than any other app of this kind. If you zoom in on the daily maps you will see that the path lines are extremely detailed. If you compare that detail with the lines in Google Timeline, or the most common comparison - the now deceased Moves app, you will see that Arc's detail is many orders of magnitude higher.

That means that Arc's database is much larger, and thus takes up a lot more space. On your phone, where Arc's primary database is stored, the database will also be many times larger than that of other apps of this kind. And the same goes for the iCloud backups.

Arc's iCloud backups use the iCloud CloudKit database service, which unfortunately is not very efficient in the way that it stores data. So for example a 1 GB database on your phone can take up over 4 GB of space in CloudKit.

Remember that the iCloud backups are an optional extra backup, and your Arc data will already be backed up to iCloud as long as your phone has normal iCloud backups turned on. So it is safe to turn off Arc's own iCloud backups if you do not have enough iCloud storage space for them.

以前moves を使っていました。長い間、移動logアプリは、あきらめていましたが、たまたま、口コミで見つけて、使ってみました。はっきり言って、movesを凌駕します。

I used to use moves. For a long time, I had given up on the movement log app, but then I happened to find it by word of mouth and tried it. It is clearly superior to moves.

I think the tie-in between automatic logging and manual correction is important for this kind of app, and this is exquisite. Maybe people who complain about this app either have unrealistic expectations or don't know how to use it.

The only thing I'm worried about is that the service will be suddenly discontinued, like moves.

Hi, Matt
Thanks to explain and sorry for late response. I understand your situation.

And, I finally upgraded iOS13.3, because it’s stability looks better than before.
Also, I began to use latest Arc app.
Splitting feature is what I expected, and it’s cool !
One more thing I’m expecting is selection capabilities of a section. Both of the splitting sections are belongs to the original group and I cannot change it.
Anyway, thanks for continuous developing.

Why the latest version only supports buggy iOS 13 or later?

Arc needs to run in the background all day, which means that it needs to support iOS 13's new Background Tasks system (otherwise it wouldn't be able to run). iOS 13's Background Tasks system is a complete rewrite of the previous system in iOS, so that means that apps that use it need to rewrite also. Supporting both iOS 13 Background Tasks and the old background tasks system isn't possible, given the time constraints on myself.

I build Arc on my own - there is only one developer, and that is me. So I have to make choices about what can and cannot be done in the available time.

More than 90% of iPhone users are already on iOS 13, so supporting iOS 13 Background Tasks is necessary. But support for both iOS 13 Background Tasks and the old system is not something that can be maintained by one developer, while also building new features and maintaining all of the other parts of a complex app.

I hope that helps to explain!
