Math is easier with Magic Number.
When you can see math properly, able to type what you think, and do everything intuitively, math becomes a breeze.
From everyday math to advanced science, Magic Number lets you do more with less effort — whatever your level.
Here’s what you will enjoy:
See better — your eyes deserve more
• See math properly and beautifully.
Say no to messy ((8*sin(30))^(1/4)/5)*arcos(pi)
• See the whole expression at any size.
Everything is crystal clear and easy to understand.
• See better results with superior formats.
Type naturally — no more mental barriers
• Type math as you see it.
For 2 sin 30 + √ 9, just type ‘2 sin 30 + √ 9’
No more backward thinking ‘2 x 30 sin + 9√’
And no more awkward syntax ‘2 * sin(30) + sqrt(9)’
• Type fast without touching the mouse.
You get lots of handy shortcuts like X for multiply.
• Edit without thinking.
Made a mistake? Just click and type over it.
Calculate intuitively — with extra smartness
• You can deal with time:
8:30 + 0:45 = 9:15
• In fact you can deal with all kinds of numbers:
fractions, percentages, complex numbers, and more.
• You can let Magic Number do the algebra:
Enter ‘100 – ? = 55’. You get ‘? = 45’
Enter ‘240 – ? % = 192’. You get ‘? = 20’
Do more with less effort
• Want to make sense of a list of numbers?
The List feature gives you the sum, tax, and statistics
with couple of clicks. It’s like a mini speadsheet.
• The History lets you go back and reuse the past.
You can even compare results.
• You can export expressions beautifully as PDFs.
This means you have a simple equation editor.
Go beyond calculators
• Over 100 functions
• 25 digits accuracy
• 10 memories (variables)
• 4 customizable tax rates
• Over 50 scientific constants
• Statistics
• Linear regression
• Matrix (Inverse, determinant, Gauss-Jordan Elimination)
And much more.

2.8.8 2018/02/14
• Support for macOS High Sierra
In the spirit of High Sierra, we took our time to improve Magic Number’s foundation. The new features here are the fruition of this effort.
• Geometric functions
You can calculate the distance between 2 points, find the scalar product, and get the angle between 2 vectors. To explore, go to Menu ▸ Help ▸ Geometry.
• Mixed base calculation
Introducing the new hash (#) operator. Like HTML, you use # to specify hexadecimals like #FFCC99. And by pressing # repeatedly, you get binaries and octals too. This means you can have numbers with different bases in a single calculation. It’s truly flexible.
• Logarithm perfected
Previously, for log ₃ 27, you have to enter log (3 , 27) or log (3 ; 27).
Now you can simply enter log 3 space 27.
• And more…
- Added left and right bitwise shift operators
- Smarter pasting of hexadecimal numbers
- Fixed a rare cosine bug with certain radians value
- Fixed broken Wikipedia links for Constants

• Quantifier format
A new format to help you make better sense of big numbers. You can see 1 000 000 000 as 1 Billion or 1 B. If you prefer metric, you can see it as 1 G too. To explore, go to Menu ▸ View ▸ Format Options.
• A more versatile log
You can now calculate the logarithm for any base.
To calculate log ₃ 27, enter log (3 , 27).
You can also use semicolon: log (3 ; 27).
As usual, if you enter log 27, you get the natural log.

Just a little update to start the new year.

As always, you can press R for the latest result.
Now, you can press R repeatedly for the recent results.
Extra bonus: click and hold the result button to reveal its ‘secret’ menu.
• More robust
Besides bug fixes, this update improves reliability.
If Magic Number encounters damaged data, instead of quitting,
it now tries to recover it. If that fails, it will discard and use new data.
Hopefully this is something you never have to encounter.

2.7.6 2016/01/14
A sweet update for Christmas:
• Complex made simple
Simple notation for complex numbers. It’s clear and easy.
It’s a cure for parenthesizing pain
• 2D for everyone
When a 16 by 9 photo is enlarged 400%, the new size is 16×4 by 9×4.
Doing the math is repetitive. Now you can do it in one easy step
— by coolly using complex number without knowing it.
• Easier complex functions
Easier than Re or Im, meet the new Part function.
Also you get a new way for polar and rectangular..
• Modulo and quotient
Now based on Euclidean division for extra math correctness.
This affects negative numbers only.
(Don’t worry, you can still use the old way.)
• Various bug fixes including a fix for the occasional startup crash.

2.7.5 2015/12/19
This is a healthy update. : )
• Improved compatibility with OS X El Capitan.
• Engineering-wise, Magic Number is more streamlined and optimized.
• A Better History

• A Sweeter List
You get more functions too. They are intuitively grouped and easier to find.
You can sort the list by clicking the table heading. (And shift-click to sort in reverse).
