This app is totally free to use. If you choose to upgrade to the premium tier, your payment will be processed by Apple. Upgrade by selecting ‘Support the Guardian’ from the app’s navigation menu.

Premium subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period. Your iTunes account will be charged for renewal within the 24-hours prior to the end of the current period. You may turn off auto-renewal after purchase by going to your iTunes Account Settings.

We've been busy improving the app:
* Fixed a bug that could cause the 'back' button on fronts/lists to be the incorrect colour.
* We have removed titles between content within some sections.
* For Australian users: we've added a visual indication of the current Nielsen status.
* We have made some improvements to the loading of content within the Live tab.

Clear, varied, independent

The term ‘Guardian reader’ is sometimes used as a putdown. It should, instead, be a compliment. If you read the Guardian you get a very healthy, stimulating boost of the interesting side of reality. And enjoy it.

Where is the news?

I once sent you money. Please make sure it goes to your sports reporters.
I think the rest of my beloved Guardian has lost the plot.
They used to tell me the news.
They now think I want to hear the opinions of American late night TV show hosts. Why?
They think I want to read about what might happen.
They think I want to be bombard everyday with articles telling me how terrible and evil and stupid the President of the United States is.
It reeks horribly of, dare I say it, fake news.
