Duolingo - Language Lessons

Learn Spanish, French, German

When it comes to learning a new language, there’s no such thing as instant gratification. Mastering a foreign tongue takes time, dedication, and discipline. But with its quick lessons and gamified features, Duolingo makes the process feel less like studying and more like playing.

Today the app offers more than 30 languages, everything from French to Chinese to Korean to recent additions, Hawaiian and Navajo. (If fantasy languages are more your thing, they’ve also created tutorials for Klingon and High Valyrian, the fictional dialects spoken in Star Trek and Game of Thrones, respectively.)

Start a lesson that suits your level.

What we love: How Duolingo leverages machine learning to adapt its lessons to you. When the app sees that you’re stuck – or absolutely crushing past-tense verbs – it evolves its curriculum accordingly.

But Duolingo teaches them all the same way: by helping you gradually build a daily habit, so you learn a little at a time.

In each lesson, you’ll practice reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Illustrated objects and recurring characters help identify and match words and phrases. And all the while, Duolingo is leveraging machine learning to personalize the lessons as you go.

When the app sees you get stuck—or when it sees you crushing Spanish past-tense verb conjugation—it evolves its curriculum to match you.
