집안에서 원어민 선생님과 프리토킹
아이가 외국에서 국제학교 3학년을 마치고 귀국했는데 코로나 때문에 학원도 못가고 집에만 있어서 답답해 하기도 했고 기껏배워둔 영어를 조금씩 잊어버리는 것 같다고 하던차에 우연히 캠블리키즈에 대해 알게 되었습니다.
사실 캠블리는 아빠인 제가 수년전에 해외 주재원 생활하면서 영어 프리토킹 연습목적으로 한동안 사용했었는데 이번에 캠블리키즈가 있다는 걸 알게 되어 영어 대화에 목말라있던 아이에게 소개하여 사용하게 되었습니다.
처음에 세 분의 선생님과 수업을 해 본 후에 그중 아이가 좋아하는 두 분을 골라 번갈아 가며 주3회 수업을 하고 있는데 선생님들이 아이에게 잘 맞춰주시고 대화를 잘 이끌어 주셔서 아이도 금세 마음을 열고 영어 수다쟁이가 되어 시간 가는 줄 모르고 즐겁게 대화하며 잘 배우고 있습니다.
최적의 실습시스템
저의 아이는 외국에서 국제학교를 다니는데도 성격이 외향적이지 못해서 영어가 하나도 늘지 않았습니다. 정말 속이 바짝바짝 탔지요. 하루에 영어를 한 마디도 안 하고 오는 날이 수두룩했습니다. 일 년이 자나도 모든 상황이 변하지 않아 절망적일 때 캠블리 키즈를 만났습니다. 제가 영어 공부를 하고 싶어서 기억해 놓았던 캠블리 클래식에 키즈 프로그램이 있다는 것을 알게 되면서요.
가장 좋은 부분이 <30분 간 원어만 선생님이 내 아이에게만 말을 걸어준다>는 점이었습니다. 온라인이라 해도 태도가 나빠지는 경우는 없었습니다. 선생님들이 정말 친절하고 끊임없이 동기부여를 해 주시기 때문입니다. 대부분 경험이 풍부하신 선생님들이신데다가 실제 각 국의 영어 원어민 선생님들이기 때문에 발음과 억양 면에서도 만족스럽지 않을 수가 없는 시스템입니다.
처음에는 연예인 매니저가 된 것처럼 아이 수업을 예약해 주느라 넘 힘들었지만 카톡으로 상담해 주시는 조언에 따라 제 아이에게 잘 맞고 아이도 좋아하는선생님을 찾아 메인 튜터로 두 세 분을 선정해 놓고 나니 두 달 정도의 스케줄을 미리 정해 놓을 수 있어서 여유로워졌습니다. 그 결과 제 아이는 일주일에 세 번 화면 너머의 선생님들 앞에서 있는 단어 없는 단어 주워 섬기며 화면 꺼질 때까지 대화를 주고받는 아이가 되었습니다. 10개월만에요.
재미있게 수업 중!!
코로나로 아이가 집에 갇히면서 집에서 할 수 있는 안전하면서 아이가 흥미로울만한 새로운 활동을 찾다가 캠블리를 발견했습니다. 단순히 영어 수업만을 위한 활동보다는 새로운 경험, 재미, 게다가 영어까지 도움되는 플랫폼이라고 생각합니다. 각국의 튜터들에게 다양한 이야기를 듣고 대화하고 외국 문화도 배우고 게임도 배우고요. ㅎ
책상에 앉아 칠판보며 알파벳 배우고 파닉스 배우고 쓰기 연습하고 이런 지루한 수업이 아니라 정말 웃고 떠들면서 30분을 보내는점이 매우 마음에 들었습니다.
그리고 스케쥴을 아이에 맞춰서 조절하고 튜터 선택을 할수 있어서 좋구요. 아이 성향에 맞는 튜터를 찾아 가는 과정이 번거롭고 많은 시행착오를 겪어야 해서 그 부분은 힘들었지만 결국 좋은 튜터들을 많이 만났고 아이는 즐겁게 수업에 참여하고 있습니다.
