Every 100 years, the world of Erden endures an apocalyptic event called the Pandemonium. But what used to hit like clockwork suddenly returns early, a mere 18 years after the last one. Tough break!
Fortunately, a quartet of young heroes sets out on a quest to end Erden’s suffering once and for all. Their tiny band eventually grows into an army – and you’re in charge of making sure it’s fit to fight in the excellent Evertale.
The game’s role-playing foundation will comfort genre fans. Hone your character’s skills through hundreds of turn-based battles against Erden’s fierce wildlife and other dark forces. Along the way, capture monsters and draft them to your cause – a key feature when you’re building an entire army.
Evertale’s bestiary isn’t just a bunch of cutesy creatures. Robots, dragons, elemental spirits, living skeletons, wolves, werewolves and samurai frogs (!) are a sampling of the comrades you can add to your party – each with its own skills and abilities. Some even evolve into stronger forms to tip the fight in your favour.
You’ll need every advantage, especially when facing Evertale’s massive bosses. These behemoths can lull your fighters into a deep sleep, delay their attacks and wield devastating spells that outright flatten your teams. But smart strategizing – switching from brute-force tactics to carefully structured magic combos – helps balance the odds.
So does upgrading your units. Carrying 20 different swords you never use? Sell them for gold. Got a few dozen extra characters that aren’t earning their keep? Fuse them to supercharge your strongest ally into a high-level teammate. And don’t sweat the grind – along with a double-speed option for random battles, you’re given loads of stat-boosting opportunities with special events, online combat and a player guild system.
Evertale’s charming graphics, adventurous spirit and clever design evoke role-playing greats. Whether you’re stopping a calamitous ritual or proving your worth against other players, you’ll wish this tale would last forever.
