Just like Willy Wonka himself, Candy Crush creator King knows how to keep inventing new, irresistibly sweet treats.
Soda Saga is the first of three follow-ups to the chart-crushing original, a game that takes its predecessor’s intuitive matching and adds in myriad extra power-ups and new level types.
And with 15 new stages added every single week, it feels like there’s a limitless number of ways to play.
First, there’s that titular soda, which fills up the screen as you make matches. It means the submerged candies float upwards rather than drop down when matched, layering in some extra strategy. Then, there are ‘soda bottle’ levels, in which you must spot and match the fizz-filled capsules before you run out of moves.
There are gummy bears to rescue, too, trapped under the colourful candies and, sometimes, under icy blocks of doom.
And the novel new stage types just keep coming. Soda Saga’s diverse set of challenges makes it a surprisingly challenging game; like a freshly-unwrapped gobstopper, it has layer upon layer of tasty puzzles to slowly peel away. Perfect for any player seeking a sweet treat for idle evenings on the sofa or on a commute.
