According to Apple's Guidelines, apps offering in-app purchase models must be included in the free category. It is not true that you have to get a subscription to use every feature. The free version supports cloud music like Dropbox, iCloud, and WiFi-sync. You can also do background playback, create custom playlists & play local iTunes music offline.
