There’s more to winning a Formula 1 race than simply going fast – a lesson you’ll learn early on in F1 Manager.
Yes, speed is crucial, but here, taking top spot on the podium requires you to pair that speed with a decent strategy. One that is as much about what happens in the pits and at team headquarters as out on the track.
That’s because in F1 Manager, instead of getting behind the wheel, you’re pulling the strings as a team boss.
Having created your own team, it’s time to work your way up through the ranks. And in the early days that means battling for 17th rather than a win. But that’s OK. In Duel mode, where you face off against another real world opponent, 17th could be enough to secure the head-to-head victory. At least early on.
Better your rival and you’ll earn rewards crates packed with cards that can be used to unlock and upgrade components for your cars and key attributes of your drivers. Move up through the race leagues and you’ll even unlock your favourite real world drivers such as Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo.
It’s in utilising these rewards that your strategy will be put to the test. How you manage your budget to upgrade your car could be the difference between victory and defeat the next time you’re at the track helping your drivers to manage their pace, tyre wear, fuel consumption and pit strategy.
Find yourself heading towards the podium? It’s then that you’ll really want to test your skills and race alongside the week’s IRL F1 action through the game’s regular GP Events.
