It's easy to consume too much sodium, and high consumption is linked to high blood pressure, heart attacks, and strokes. In contrast, a high potassium intake lowers high blood pressure. The sodium app will set the Chronic Disease Risk Reduction Level (CDRR) provided in the US Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025, which depends on your age, as your default daily sodium target. You can change this target at any time. The potassium app will set your default daily target based on your age and sex, which you can change as you wish.
The apps will guide you to set and customise your sodium and potassium targets based on the US Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025. You can change your targets at any time.
The foods and amounts you eat can be recorded easily and quickly using the barcode scanner for both sodium and potassium in the US where manufacturers are required to provide sodium and potassium content (elsewhere manufacturers are not required to provide potassium content), speech recognition or by favoriting foods and using the serving sizes provided (which you can change to your serving sizes if different).
Watch your progress towards your target intake every day in real-time as you record your food and beverage intake. You can also view your progress over time on the Month view dashboard, and export your food diaries into a spreadsheet for your own information or to share with healthcare providers.
The apps have a curated database containing 328 common (mainly healthy) foods and drinks and you can add your own branded and other foods and recipes at any time. All 212 plant foods and beverages in this database appear in green type to help users consume the 30+ different types plant per week for a healthy gut microbiome, as recommended by experts.
