Description

Good news for owners of the Tempest Weather System by WeatherFlow-Tempest, Inc. Now you can have a locally displayed console specifically designed to display your weather observations and hyper-local forecasts on a single screen in real-time. You can also get daily and hour-by-hour forecasts for up to 7 days.

The "Home"view displays all the relevant data necessary to keep tabs on conditions such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind gusts, daily rain, rain storm totals, rain rate, and sky conditions such as UV, LUX and solar radiation. It also displays sunrise and sunset. Or you can choose the alternate display with just the basics enlarged for easy viewing from a distance.

The "Storm" view displays all the above items except sky conditions. In its place, Teapot for Tempest displays a live weather radar map for your location. It updates automatically so no user intervention is necessary. Whenever you are expecting a storm, all you need to do is tap the 'Storm View" icon, and everything you need to see will be right there.

The "Forecast" view displays detailed hyper-local forecasts for up to 7 days as well as hour-by-hour forecasts for the same periods.

Installation and setup takes less than 5 minutes and your weather readings will be immediately streamed to your device in real time wherever you are. Your weather data stays private. Only devices you approve can look at your data.

Teapot for Tempest offers Nearcast compatibility as well as a unique rainfall calibration function that helps to improve your rainfall display accuracy. By using another weather station or simple rain gauge as a comparison, you can adjust your rainfall readings to an actual "known accurate" rain collector. This will greatly improve your rainfall reading accuracy. It uses a simple slider to adjust plus or minus percentages that is non-destructive. It only modifies the displayed reading, and leaved the underlying raw data in its original state.

Teapot also allows you to select light or dark modes overriding your system settings, or you can choose to follow your system settings.

Teapot for Tempest uses its own weather radar map using Apple Maps and radar data from RainViewer. You're not limited to our map however. We have provided a mechanism to allow any embeddable map you may prefer. Several weather providers offer embedded maps for personal use. To embed an alternative weather radar map, all you need is the URL from the provider. And, if you need any help, we're happy to assist you.

Nouveautés

Version 1.36

We've made several small improvements in this release to improve how some of the features work.

1) The Units setting for distance incorrectly swapped Imperial for Metric. This has been fixed.

2) The Wind compass dial face looks a little different. I plan on offering multiple user selectable "Faces" for the Compass Dial. This will allow a little user customization. I want to add faces for Brushed Brass and Stainless Steel amongst others. So the changes in this release were made to make it easier to create them. You will be able to select the Face you want in Settings.

3) Also in the Wind Compass area, we changed the Rainfall intensity ring that appears when it is raining. It used to change the color of the whole ring to a color representative of the current intensity. Now the ring is a gradient that starts with blue for light rain, and progresses to green, yellow, orange, red and purple as intensity increases. It really looks nice and gives it a little more "pop". The maximum scale value is 3 inches per hour. Higher rain rates will be recorded, but not shown on the gauge.

4) Also on the Wind Compass view, the last release included forecast boxes for "Today" and "Tomorrow". The icon names are included in the data we get from Weatherflow. For example, for Clear conditions the icon name they send us is "clear-day" for daytime, and "clear-night" for nighttime. I noticed later that after midnight, they switch from "clear-night" to "clear-day. So the display was not accurate during nighttime hours between 12:00am and sunrise. I fixed this so the icon shown now aligns with your sunrise and sunset times.

5) The Wind Compass view also has a few more visual cues when the forecast boxed are displayed. If the precipitation probability is 10% or more, a blue drop is overlayed over the regular forecast icon. If the precipitation probability id 50% or more, the border around the box will be blue. If the forecast temperature is between 80 and 90 degrees F (or equivalent), the border will be orange. If the forecast temperature is 90 degrees F (or equivalent) or more, the border will be red. Rain trumps temperatures here.

6) The linear gauges on the Home Screen were re-done to make them more useful. There were also some graphical problems that have been fixed. Specifically, the wind gust scale is now a maximum of 40 MPH or your localized equivalent. The gauge originally auto-scaled but that reduced the usefulness as you were never sure. We chose 40 MPH based on what would be considered high wind for most users. We may add a scale setting that users could adjust if users request it.

Similarly, with the rain rate linear gauge, we set the maximum range to 3 inches per hour. This is now the same as the circular rain rate on the Wind Compass screen. This will provide a more consistent view. The maximum ranges only apply to the gauges themselves. Actual high values will still be there as before, no matter what they are.
