It’s a dark place when the anxiety about the future hits you. Most people have that experience occasionally, but for you, it’s different. It goes beyond a manageable worry. The emotions and behavior start to interfere with your daily life. An upcoming meeting at work, participation at a social event, a date, or a flight you need to take. Situations that cause you severe catastrophic scenarios play out repeatedly in your head. Every event, decision, action, or situation can be a disaster in countless ways. You’re catastrophizing.

Often the best solution seems to be avoidance. Whether it’s canceling on an invite from your family and friends, avoiding making a decision or procrastinating with a task. Not only does it make you feel worse, but it also robs you of the opportunity of having great experiences. It robs you from living your life.

An interesting phenomenon occurs when the dreaded future event passes or the anxiety-inducing action has been made. Even if it hasn’t resulted in a catastrophic outcome, you instantly focus on a new future event, action, or decision. The same story unfolds again.

There’s something not right. Most of the catastrophic outcomes you have been afraid of haven’t materialized. Use that crack in your established thinking patterns to experiment with a different approach. Use it to start deliberately experimenting with your catastrophic predictions.

Gestalt Shift is a place where you put your mind to the test. You experiment with your thinking and fears. You create an experiment for every situation causing you anxiety and dread about the future. You compare your catastrophic predictions with the actual outcomes of reality. In that process, you’ll gain two insights:

Your catastrophic predictions are almost always wrong, and the outcome is better than expected. You’re happy to be wrong for once, and you’ll have data to prove it.
Even if a situation turns out to be a disaster, you can handle it and move on.

There’s nothing to lose by trying out the approach by experimenting with your anxiety-driven mind. You can continue to catastrophize or end up in a situation where anxiety doesn’t define your day. Where anxiety doesn’t make you miss out on the beautiful moments in life.

SUBSCRIPTION OPTIONS:
Two subscription options are available. You can choose between a monthly or a yearly subscription. Subscriptions will be charged to your credit card through your iTunes account. Your subscription will automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. The cost of the subscription depends on which subscription option you choose. To end a subscription, disable auto-renewal and allow the current period to end. It will not be possible to cancel a subscription immediately. Subscriptions may be managed by you and auto-renewal may be turned off by going to your Account Settings after purchase. Refunds are not available for unused portions of a subscription.
