It won't even let me log in, it goes to the browser and comes back instantly

Hi L10N🐯, sorry for the problem and thanks to make me aware of that. At the moment pocket login might not work when Safari is not the default browser. A fix is on its way.
(In the meantime you could make Safari a default browser for the login and then switch back to your favourite browser. )
