What’s New

Version 0.39.2

iOS 0.39.0 Released!

This update marks a big milestone: for the first time, you can take your content from mobile to the web. Alongside that, Spaces are now easier to navigate and join, properties and templates are more convenient to work with, and editing feels more refined.

Web Publishing
You can now publish your Anytype objects to the web directly from the iOS app, bringing full feature parity with desktop and enabling content sharing wherever you are.
- Access the new "Publish to Web" option in object settings.
- Preview your page with a custom URL before publishing.
- Personalize your domain with a unique name on any.org for your published objects by upgrading your membership.

Enhancements
Prominent Undo / Redo Buttons
We’ve added dedicated buttons to the toolbar above the keyboard so they’re always visible while editing.

Paste Images from Clipboard
When you paste an image, it now appears directly as an image block

Scan Documents in / Slash Menu
A new camera action lets you capture and upload document images, inserted as individual image blocks.

QR Code Space Joining
Join a Space instantly by scanning a QR code right from the Vault screen. Tap the + button, choose Join via QR code, and point your camera at an invite. You can also share your own QR code so others can join your Space just as quickly.

Space Search
A new search bar is now available at the top of your Vault screen, making it easier to navigate when you have lots of spaces.

Properties & Templates
We’ve revamped property and template management for a smoother & more organized experience:
- Redesigned Properties panel with clearer layout and expandable sections.
- "Move to Bin" now replaces permanent deletion to help prevent accidental data loss.
- Smarter templates with a cleaner UI, improved default controls and more predictable behavior.
- Visual polish with updated icons, plural naming fixes and header cleanup.
- Behind-the-scenes fixes for filters, type logic and cross-platform consistency.

Embeds
Embed blocks are now partially supported, showing meaningful previews:
- If the embed contains a URL (like YouTube or Soundcloud), it appears as a link block – tap to open it in your browser.
- If there’s no URL (like LaTeX or Charts), it appears as a labeled placeholder so you know what’s inside and can view the content on the desktop.

Fixes
- Added support for .yaml and .yml files in self-hosted setups.
- The recovery phrase can now be revealed without requiring a device passcode.
- Many small design and UI tweaks for your smoother experience.

Frustrating UX

Update Apr 2025: the UX was frustrating before, and now it’s unusable.

Data management just got clumsier, and the UI is even less intuitive than before.

The update changes all the bookmarks into direct links. This impacts all Bookmarks that have been edited, had information organised, or even Bookmarks changed to another Type. I’ve lost many hours and a lot of data.

This means that even editing the links is no longer convenient, and the feature I use most (bookmark external link > capture information later, keep link as reference) is now obsolete. It’s unthinkable how every Bookmark is now essentially just a link button.

I have no reason to organise information on this app anymore. Frankly, between the incoherent updates in this app, you shouldn’t either. If you do, you need to maintain a copy of your database on another app.

I love Anytype’s privacy features, but everything else is a trial.

I use this app daily, to organise one field of knowledge. I’ve lost many links I thought were saved in the database, because I didn’t realise the app wanted me to manually select the space *repeatedly, multiple times, every few hours*.

It also can’t do many rollup or customisation features if you use it for PKM. Simple example would be getting “@today” as a date tag to work as expected in a template setting.

This app works best if you’re manually inputting everything by typing it. Not if you’re copying + pasting text (you get random line breaks) or if you’re organising bookmarks (because of the Space selection issue, that is now touted as a ✨ Feature ✨ in the app updates).

(From an aesthetics POV, I’m so used to having the full emoji library as icons, and now I don’t even have the correct flags as symbols for pages I have about certain countries)
