Not enough tutorial! Whats a depth map? How do we use this??

Whats a depth map? How do we use it? What is it for? How can we optimize our images? How do we do it? We are all not professional tech people to magically understand a new innovative app like this. A little (ALOT) help would he great. Video tutorial or walkthrough would be great. This app is released to the masses yea not so please think how you can help the regular joes out there ☹️
