Grim Quest tries to blend tabletop RPG vibes, familiar dungeon crawling and roguelike mechanics, and a classic turn-based combat system into an accessible and entertaining package. Because of its attention to written storytelling, detailed worldbuilding and abundance of lore, Grim Quest can be similar to a solo Dungeons and Dragons campaign, or even a choose your own adventure book.

Grim Quest is a single player game and can be played offline. It has no lootboxes, energy bars, overpriced cosmetics, content locked behind endless microtransactions, or other modern monetization schemes. Just a one-time purchase for the full game, and completely optional goodies for those who wish to support the game and its development.

Good gameplay and story

Very entertaining

Old school delight

What can I say? Retro dungeon crawling hack and slash goodness without ads or pay to win! This should be a 4.5 star review because the layout on an iPad mini is a bit odd and difficult to scroll through the inventory when shopping or selling. I wish it could’ve been optimised for the larger screen. That’s the only thing preventing a full 5-stars.

Otherwise, awesome world building. Love the way the story opens up slowly. Even the loss of sanity is brilliant. I thought it was a bug until I realised all the ??? were because I was slowly losing my mind.

It’s not too much of a grind, really. Other dungeon crawls are worse.

Highly recommended if old school appeals to you!
