This update fixes a few small bugs. It includes all the great features in iA Writer 7.1:

- Major upgrade for iA Writer’s integration with Shortcuts
- 18 new actions to open, create, edit, and organize files
- This feature requires iPadOS 16.1, or iOS 16.1
- We’ve prepared a few practical shortcuts to show what’s possible, and to inspire you to create your own

# Open

- Open New: Opens a new note, ready to be saved to your Inbox folder as soon as you type.
- Add Diary Entry: Adds an entry to your Diary folder with the current date and time.
- Take Meeting Notes: Creates meeting notes document for your upcoming calendar event.
- Open Clipboard: Opens a new file with clipboard contents converted to Markdown.

- Dictate Text: Saves dictated text to your Inbox folder.

Best writing app

This is the far best writing app I’ve ever used. And they keep updating their app to maintain their high quality app.

Selecting text is such a pain!

It’s only my second day using this app, I’m already getting so much stress from it.

Firstly, it was kind of disappointing on how the file access works. The Dropbox support was not convenient.

Basically you’re forced to use iCloud to save your files and export it Dropbox if needed.

The Direct access to Dropbox isn’t conveniently available at all. (Sorry I even find it hard to describe the usage behavior)
As most people would expect to just link your Dropbox and open up files directly for writing or editing.

I would hope for improvement on working with Dropbox files instead. Or at least to have options for using either iCloud or Dropbox.

Secondly, for text selection; whether is it using the shortcut command or direct selection, the screen just keep scrolling up and down too quickly when you try to select any sentences.

There’s no way for you to select precisely what you need. So the feature is basically just there for decorative purpose.

While I’m not sure for the choice of MultiMarkdown, but having just too many things to change from our workflow just to use this app doesn’t make it any better for end users.

Is YAML and GFM support possible?

On Dropbox: they discontinued their API and so we switched to using the native iOS Files API. Dropbox pledged their support for this but don't yet offer the ability to share full folders. Once they do, you'll be able to add them right beside the iCloud location. It already works perfectly with other apps like the wonderful Working Copy—we're just waiting on Dropbox to finish their end of the bargain.

On text selection: we're not able to replicate to this ourselves. If you could send us steps detailing in what context this issue occurs we would love to fix it. (support@ia.net)

We opted for MultiMarkdown because it offered improvements over standard Markdown, such as tables and footnotes. These days, there are more options on the table and things could change if there is a good argument for it.

YAML is partially supported by MultiMarkdown, at least in terms of the initial metadata format at the top of a file. GFM is mostly cross-compatible too—just some edge cases with very specific table formatting.

Great app, great potential, sadly no RTL

I started using this app since I need to write articles that will eventually be published in Markdown. It’s powerful but it lacks support for RTL languages. It does show Arabic content correctly, but it’s not RTL. Which makes the process of writing articles an Arabic such a hassle. Please enable this feature, I don’t think it’s difficult from a technical perspective. Apple’s Notes app has it.
