Description

VidaTalk™ is an interactive, multilingual communication tool for non-verbal patients, also serving facilities where patients and providers may speak different languages. VidaTalk is specifically designed and tested for the hospital environment with funding support from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Nursing Research NR014087. The most common phrases used by hospitalized patients can be selected with a single touch. Patients may also type personalized messages and draw with their finger which allows for quick, easy and customizable communication. Words and phrases specific to their needs are expressed through recorded audio across gender and language, giving every patient a voice.

This version of VidaTalk includes English and bilingual communication with both verbal and written translation for 40 languages: Amharic, Arabic, Armenian, Bosnian, Burmese, Cantonese, Chinese, Creole, Czech, Dari, Dutch, English, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hmong, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Lithuanian, Marshallese, Nepalese, Pashto, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Thai, Tigrinya, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.

Speech solutions for long-term or chronic communication disabilities often fail to meet the unique needs of the healthcare environment and leave non-verbal patients unable to actively participate with their care. VidaTalk is an essential component of any critical care and equity, diversity and inclusion communication program. If you, a family member, or loved-one is hospitalized and suffers from speech or language barrier, be sure to download VidaTalk today!

Subscription too expensive, no customization, only 1 day free trial

I’m looking into this app because my dad just had a tracheostomy and currently cannot move or speak, and is in intensive care unit.

Apps typically offer 1 month free trial or at minimum 7 days. This app only offers 1 day trial which isn’t really enough time for the patient and caregiver to get a good feel for it.

The subscription of 49.90 per month and 189.90 per year is very high for how basic the app is. There is no way to customize the order of the icons or size and layout of the icons which is important when the patient is already struggling with some cognitive issues.

The app is definitely very useful but the short trial and high pricing is not compassionate towards caregivers and patients who are already under tremendous difficulty and stress. I will look for alternatives if possible.
