Linelight

A world of 1D puzzles awaits.

This game’s elegant lines and dashes of neon make you feel like you’re a futuristic electrician connecting a series of complex circuits.

Linelight really is an ingenious slice of puzzle game design. Taking a few simple ingredients – switches, keys, locks and some basic enemy AI – it evolves rapidly from simple line puzzles into a series of complex grids that will test your lateral thinking.

You control the titular line of light, sliding your finger across the screen to move it along the set paths ahead. Getting to the end of each puzzle means flipping switches, grabbing keys and use the pulsing red ‘enemy’ light to your advantage, often setting it along a different path to trigger a switch on your behalf.

Reach the end of each single-screen challenge and the line of light just keeps going, on and on into space. But it’s all leading somewhere - we recommend tapping on the circle in the top left of the screen.

When you do, the camera zooms out to reveal the long, complex line you’ve been following in all its intricate glory. It’s not often you can say that a game’s pause screen is among its best features.

It’s yet another neat touch in a game absolutely packed with clever conundrums, subtle visual flourishes and satisfying ‘Eureka!’ moments. Minimal and unassuming it may be, but Linelight is an outstanding puzzle game worthy of anyone’s homescreen.
