A well-designed presentation does more than look good – it grabs the audience’s attention, establishes a hierarchy for information and elevates the emotional impact of the ideas you want to convey.

It’s not easy to build a slide that does all that, but a new PowerPoint feature called Designer, powered by Microsoft 365’s Office Intelligent Services, can help. Drawing on advice from professional designers, it suggests various layouts based on the specific content of each slide.

Just drop a photo onto a slide and the Design Ideas pane will open with several design options. For example, Designer might identify the subject of the image and give it prominent placement on the slide; or it might pinpoint an interesting colour from the photo and apply it to a line, box or other element. Click your favourite option and the slide updates instantly.

Designer isn’t limited to photos; it also provides suggestions for text, lists and dates. For example, it can automatically identify dates and format them into a timeline or scan your text to suggest relevant icons. Just add your content to a slide, click Design in the toolbar, and choose the Design Ideas option in the top right corner of the presentation.

You’ll have plenty of layouts to choose from, so your content has the space to shine. And because the PowerPoint team regularly update the service, the suggestions always feel fresh and incorporate the latest best practices. Which means you can focus on the most important part of your presentation: the ideas.
