It’s been more than a decade since Just Dance arrived and turned our living rooms into makeshift dancefloors.
Since that first game arrived to storm the charts back in Nintendo Wii’s glory days, creator Ubisoft has expanded the series to take in nearly every device under the sun, selling millions more Just Dance games along the way. There’s even talk of Just Dance being made into a movie, such is its popularity.
The reason for this globe-spanning success is arguably down to its simplicity: it’s basically karaoke for dancing. To play, you try to mirror the dancers onscreen as best you can to rack up star ratings.
Whether you want to dance solo or online with other users, setting things up is simple. Fire up the app on iPhone and you can connect it to a browser window on your Mac or PC, Apple TV or streaming box or dongle.
Enter the unique Dance Room code showing in the game and that second screen becomes the focus of your attention, while your iPhone becomes the controller. You can also connect the iPhone game to iPad by downloading the app on that device, too.
Pick a track, get dancing and the game senses your movements and scores you based on how well you’re replicating the action on the second screen.
Spanning decades of musical history, Just Dance Now has a huge selection of classic bangers like “Fame” and “Y.M.C.A.” to more contemporary hits by Shakira, Ariana Grande, will.i.am, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars. There’s even a kids’ corner for young dancers.
As an added bonus, Just Dance Now includes a fitness category to show you how well you’re burning off those calories. It’s never been easier to pepper your busy schedule with a little exercise while having fun at the same time. See you on the dancefloor!
