Word Flashcard Learning

Bienvenue à Flashcards! Prepare to learn French vocabulary for your next holiday. Or fancy Italian, Spanish, German, Russian, Arabic, Japanese and another 20 languages? It’ll only take five minutes a day.

The old revision technique, writing notes on cards and testing yourself from the stack, needs a modern upgrade. Flashcards is the solution. It’s a learning app which introduces you to idioms and drums them in with little games.

You pick random words, or tell it what phrases you’re interested in. Alternatively, select a theme, such as furniture, numbers, art or computers. This neat feature means you can boost your knowledge in bespoke areas depending on your needs.

A digital approach to old school language learning.

Sessions include traditional cards where you test yourself; multiple-choice questions; a word builder game where you spell out the expression from supplied letters; an aural test where you listen to the word and type the translation; and a section where the app listens to you as you speak.

This is daunting at first, but it’s great to practice how something sounds as well as its spelling. Your attempts to recall cards every day is marked on a progress bar.

Flashcards functions as a translation tool even if you don’t use the brain training tools. After the free trial period, you need to upgrade to get full access – which unlocks all features for continued use.

And it adds additional training types, plus Sprint mode (which piles on the pressure by adding a time limit to each test). Bonne chance!
