It looks like windows 95

For such a cool looking instrument I would’ve thought they’d hire a good interface designer. This app functions fine, but it’s clearly built by engineers, not designers. The same goes for their entire design aesthetic to be honest. It all feels a bit ‘do it yourself’ by employees that actually work there to do other things…?

It makes it look like they are a very small company that can’t afford a graphic designer. Which, they probably are.

Appearance does matter though… People will not have great trust in a company when they see an app like this, or when they look at the weirdly textured packaging design for the modules, for example. It all looks a bit cheap, whereas the instrument is actually pretty high class. There’s just no way to tell from any of their graphic design.

So, Viscount, if you’re listening: Spend some money on a good designer! It will help grow the trust in your brand immensely. And also keep your current customers involved. They are your most important ambassadors.

If I’m happy using your products, I will tell everyone. Right now, I’m not sure I would recommend it. That has solely to do with the user experience.

Sorry, I’m not here to offend the current designer. It’s just not very modern or tasteful. Can you imagine Apple, or any other company with good taste in design, designing an app like this? Or packaging like that? It just totally doesn’t match your quality standards. (Or does it? Because then I’m worried about my piano too…)

I love what you’re doing with this instrument though, very excited what the future will bring! But to be very honest, I’m afraid you could stop supporting this app any moment. It just doesn’t feel trustworthy, and that is mainly because of how it all looks.

Good design is more than just good looks. It should reflect the entire soul of the company. Right now the soul of your company is reflected as low resolution, incoherent, cheap, outdated.

It’s understandable, you’re not a tech-company but a musical instruments company. That’s what you do best. But with this instrument, you have entered the realm of tech-companies. The market is big, the alternatives are many, the crowd is picky. You have to stand out. Having good design really helps with selling a feeling. And that’s not just the piano itself (which is absolutely brilliant by the way), but also the websites, the packaging, the apps, everything. Incoherence looks amateurish.

I know you’re smart because the piano is fantastic. But please don’t think you can do it all yourself. Designing software is a craft. And not just a developer’s craft. Hire a young tech-savvy designer to have a good look at all your graphic stuff! They’re not so expensive. :)
