Manual?

Great app but where is the manual?

Great Concept with Several Flaws

I updated MN 3 to MN 4, and I'm disappointed. So far, this has been a net loss in utility (for me) at a 60 € cost.

On the good side, the developer has improved some of the cognitive learning. They have also added a (better) notebook, addressing a big gap with competitors like Margin Notes. I really like the concept of this application, and I want the developer to succeed. This is a great idea.

On the bad side, let's start with the large number of bugs. None yet are hard failures, but I have lost text markup, for example. I've also had something I created get "frozen" where I had to restart the application to edit.

Let's get to my big issue. The user experience is challenging. it often violates Apple standards, though I'll give the developer a lot of leniency there, in that they are working with unusual concepts that don't always match the standards.

However, to give a baseline, it took me about 8 hours to prep a small document in a Study Set where i could use it. Much of the time was reaquainting myself with MN4's new place to "hide" functionality I used in MN3 and trying to figure out the new interactions Oh, yes, and fighting the UI's "selection" mechanism.* That's insane.

*UI Selection of Objects. I frequently get into a state where I can't (easily or at all) select my own comments or "extends" in a document. Why isn't there a single toolbar control that puts the app in "select" mode?

There is a lot of repetitive activities, especially if you want to build cards from lists or tables. (Still no table support?!). The product description makes a point about having removed cognitive load in repetitive tasks, but it fails in my opinion. Why can't I build multiple cards from a table automatically? Why can't I set a "go-by" example and scan a page or document, automatically building cards for every identcailly formatted group of text? What am I missing?

For non Chinese speakers, the manuals and text appear to be computer-generated translations. All the snapshots are in Chinese, which does pose a problem when your computer's screen doesn't exactly match the example. However, I'll give the developers a break here. It's difficult for a small company to provide good internationalization. At least they try.
