"No Distractions" for YouTube is an open-source Safari App Extension I built to help myself. It lets you take control over your use of YouTube instead of letting the YouTube algorithms control you...!

It does this by letting you hide video recommendations, and many other distractions on the front, search, and watch pages (e.g., control whether you want to see comments, thumbnail images, view & like counts, etc). Oh, and the app also also hides the ads that are inserted in your search results. :)

You can decide for yourself which parts you want to see, by clicking the extension icon.

If you want the app to remember your settings for next time, click 'save settings'.

If you need to add a little friction to change the settings, so that you don't turn distractions back on too easily, you can set a wait time. This will make you wait e.g. 5 seconds when you open the settings before they appear.

Really useful extension

For me this small extension has a really positive impact on my focus and productivity helping me not to fall into the "rabbit hole" that can be YouTube. 100% recommended!

Good app BUT...! My concerns...

The app is good but I am concerned with the privacy and safety when I enable this app within safari setting:
1. when you go to enable the app in the setting it says that this app can see when I visit youtube and even worse, it says that yhe owner can read sensitive information on the page!! like passwords, phone numbers, creditcard details etc.

Please make this app as private, secure and safe as possible! I would understand it if this app was free, but people pay for this!

Thanks for flagging this - the app does none of these things. As far as I know, this message is shown for all safari extensions because they *could* in principle access those things.

The app collects zero data. It only does these two things:
1) inject a CSS style sheet that locally in your browser hides recommended videos,
2) inject javascript that creates the button to hide and unhide comments.

The app is open source to ensure transparency and security - you can find the source code for the app here and inspect it for yourself (or suggest changes): https://github.com/ulyngs/open-source-no-distractions-for-youtube

You could even just download the source code from GitHub yourself and install it with Xcode without getting it through the App Store if you want prefer 100% control over what's in the app.
