‏Also got a pedantic sense of aesthetics? Plane App allows you to capture minimalist photos of building façades. Straight lines stay straight in a fully automated way. Get rid of perspective effects and radial lens distortions on the fly. Discover the hidden beauty of every city with #planeapp.

Plane App uses computer vision algorithms to detect planes that are framed by orthogonal lines. Rectifying your camera feed in real time enables you to see how your photo will turn out before even capturing it. The algorithm does not only correct perspective effects but also radial lens distortion. That way, the straightness of lines in your scene will be preserved in your final photo. Just zoom out and see the actual transformation that is applied or let Plane App crop your photos to their ideal frame. You think you can do better than the algorithm? Drag the markers to four corner points of your object in order to refine the automatic correction.

You've got these amazing pictures of ancient façades from your last trip to Rome on your DSLR? Just import them to Plane App and transform them to minimalist pieces of art. And of course you can directly share them with your friends and followers.

Hans (NL) ,

Good start, bad functional

Very impressive automatical perspective corrections! But also many totally wrong interpretations and also the "save as original" is not working. Meaning; all photos of last week that you correct, will be added as new images in the album :-(

Idea behind the automatic correction and keep straight lines is great and so easy, needs some more testing and better UX & functionalities...

Hi Hans, thanks for your review!

The “save original” option allows you to both save the unmodified as well as the modified images instead of only the latter. However I can look into adding an option to override the original image in order to avoid duplicates images.

I know that the automatic detection only works well for structured façades which is just a natural limitation of this approach. From other feedback I know that a fallback solution for manually defining key points for the transformation would be highly appreciated. I cannot promise that this will find its way into the app anytime soon but it’s definitely on my list :)

I hope you still enjoy the app for most situations!

Philipp

EDIT: In the meantime I added the possibility to manually defining keypoints for rectifying difficult photos. I would appreciate if you would try this out and see if it meets your expectations!
