Description

Unseen Empire is produced in close partnership with Oxford University's Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU), and supported by the National Geographic Society.

Venture into the wildest places on earth and discover the unseen wildlife that lives within.

Based on a true story, Unseen Empire is an exciting playable reconstruction of an epic camera trap initiative... in search of the elusive Clouded Leopard.

> Gain access to hundreds of stunning candid wildlife photos from the study
> Open dozens of unique research sites across South-East Asia
> Set camera traps to observe the forests unseen
> Spot, identify and count dozens of rare species
> Reveal real scientific data gathered by a world-class team of researchers
> Uncover evidence to influence policy makers

Unseen Empire uniquely brings to life a massive ten-year study by Professor David Macdonald and his team at WildCRU, on the impact of deforestation on the habitat of the clouded leopard. It’s the biggest camera trapping project ever attempted, and resulted in the largest catalog of photos of any research project on any species.

Supercool!

Gives you a real “wildlife safari feeling”, as a true national park explorer. Kids also love it.

Why the long, boring tutorial?

I want to play the game, not go through a long, boring tutorial. Part of the fun in figuring out how the game works. A tutorial gets in the way of that, and it takes away my feeling of agency. Also, I ignored the initial parts of the story, because they came before I could play the game. It’s a pity, because the story is probably fascinating, and I would have loved to discover it as I played the game. But unfortunately, after like 90 seconds of just tapping Next, Next, Next, I deleted this app. I was hoping to have some fun learning about animals, research, Southeast Asia, and the discoveries y’all made. But instead, I’m writing this review. C’est la vie, I guess.

Developer Response ,

Hi Brian, thank you for giving it a try and for the detailed feedback. We are sorry that the game did not meet your expectations.

Just so you know, it is just that the onboarding phase is controlled so you get to notice all the features and insights as you move further in the game. Once you finish the tutorial level 1, it's up to you how you progress and which sites you research and discover the stories and insights from - so you have your control and agency back.
However, thanks for highlighting this, we are definitely going to look into this in the next update. We'd really appreciate if you give it a second try. Cheers!
