You can use some features of SkinVision for free including our risk profile and skin type quizzes, storing images of your moles and accessing UV information in your area.

Skin cancer is a global and growing problem. It's estimated that 1 in 5 people will develop it in their lifetime. More people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year than all other cancers combined.

Early detection is key to prevention and timely treatment. In fact, over 95% of skin cancers can be successfully treated if they are found early. This is why dermatologists recommend performing skin checks every 3 to 6 months. Now you can do this simply with SkinVision on your smartphone.

Our checks use an algorithm to assess your mole or skin spot for cancerous signs. Our service is quality assured by our team of dermatology experts. Our users have received more than 3.5 million risk assessments and we’ve found over 50,000 cases of melanoma and other types of skin cancer.

The SkinVision app is a regulated medical device with European CE marking. We care about your privacy and are ISO certified for information security and medical device management. SkinVision is trusted by insurance companies worldwide for the early detection of skin cancer. SkinVision has partnerships with leading health insurers, cancer clinics and research universities in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, and New Zealand.

WHY SKINVISION?

Professional medical app for monitoring moles

If you have one or more moles, you should take time to evaluate this app. I’m really glad that I did. I recommend downloading and using the free trial. Put off by the price? Think again: This app is a CE-labelled medical device. It’s not a gimmick.

Still unsure? Read my further comments:
To obtain a CE-Mark as a Medical Device, the developer has needed to develop a product and, through a costly but important process, demonstrate that it provides scientifically consistent and accurate information. Anybody can write and app and claim it’s helpful but may accidentally cause harm. The chance of that happening is lower when EU authorities have approved the device.

In practice, you take a photo of your mole, answer a simple question based on icons, and click ‘check’. You instantly get feedback as to whether the mole is probably normal, might be of concern or if you should visit a medical doctor. The image is stored and sorted by date and in a folder for that mole for future reference.

The app stores the images and can send you a reminder at suitable intervals to take a quick picture. This way, your clinician can also see any changes over time.

Why bother with an app, cancer can only be diagnosed by a doctor, right? Well, although I have technical insight in the field myself, I don’t go to the doctor when I think a mole has changed just a bit. I’m not sure if it has. It’s probably ok. That’s what I tell myself. Don’t want to waste their time. This app ensures that I don’t rely on my memory, or forget to book an appointment if there is a real change. If the app recommends an appointment, then I know that recommendation is coming from an approved Medical Device so I’m not wasting their time. Finally, it gives me peace of mind.

To me, it means a lot that this is a medical device not just a well-wishing developer with a clever app. I know then, that the algorithm is good.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that an ambiguous result was evaluated by a pathologist/medical doctor and I received personal feedback.

The cost does prohibit this being available to everyone - unless your doctor, insurance company or healthcare pays it for you. However, if you can allocate the funds to monitor your moles then I think this is a terrific app.

Possible improvements? I’d like to be able to graphically allocate images to a body location rather than a file name. I’d also like to be able to zoom in - although this is not usually important as the algorithm does the work.

Does exactly what its supposed to

It works accurately and efficiently. I was impressed by the feedback from dermatologist only taking 2 days, on a weekend! The feedback was hepful and alleviated my concern about potential false positives.
