ExpSAFE: Blast 4+

**ExpSAFE Blast Calculator Pro** is a ‘Level 1’ mobile engineering tool designed to facilitate blast wave assessments in support of rapid safety assessments. The tool predicts blast effects resulting from explosions and vessel ruptures containing gas or liquid. Overpressure calculations were formally validated against US Army Technical Manual 5-855-1 ‘Fundamentals for protective design for conventional weapons’ (CONWEP). Note that CONWEP is an unclassified international recognised modelling tool for calculating explosion effects and is widely utilised within the explosive safety community. The primary reference source for the formulae utilised in this application was the International Ammunition Technical Guides (IATG) 01.80: Formulae for Ammunition Management (with UNODA permission).

It is noteworthy that the UNODA project ‘UN SaferGuard’ has made significant contributions to the field of ammunition safety. Their website serves as an excellent resource for technical information, offering a comprehensive range of complimentary online tools. The site introduces and summarises scientifically proven and sound formulae that can support decision-making and risk management processes.

This professional edition provides the following functionality:

- Ability to determine the blast effective yield based on Net Explosive Quantity and the TNT equivalence assigned to the type of explosives being consideration.
- View a range of predicted hemisphere blast wave characteristics.
- provide summary of potential damage and injury probabilities based on probit functions, including reference to Cat Damage
- Display a range of estimated threshold distance for damage and injury associated with published open source blast effects criteria.
- The inclusion of Low Level Blast injury awareness and predicted LED distances linked to Layer3Service’s ExploSIM Simulation Kit.
- Show selected injury or damage circles centred around user coordinates using Apple Maps imagery
- calculate the effective TNT equivalency factor associated with a Gas Bleve explosion.
- Ability to toggle between imperial and metric units for input parameters.
