Drops: AI Language Learning 4+

Fun and engaging

Honestly I struggle with a lot of language learning apps because they’re not very useful, they teach me words I don’t care to know and they get boring. Drops brings the fun game element to learning and keeps you on your toes and engaged. Through a mixture of listening reading and writing, it forces you to ako words quickly and effectively!! 11/10 loving it so far! I bought the lifetime subscription as well which even if I don’t use it forever was still worth it for the unlimited 15min sessions a day. On the standard free plan it’s 5minutes a day but even that is enough to get the ball rolling. Can’t praise this app enough. Also the graphics are visually appealing and fun!

So good overall but a few big issues

Honestly this app is so good with one major issue which until it’s changed I would never go premium and it irritates me a lot using it now.

The image system works great for basic things, but as soon as you get into anything a bit more complex like actions or ideas it becomes so hard to differentiate. So you end up wasting energy trying to remember this this image means aunt but this image means step mother and they basically look the same. It’s especially difficult if you take a break and come back to it after a while. I can’t work out what the image is and there’s no way to show the English without digging through your collection.

Really simple fix please: include the English with the pic or have it as an option to tap and show the English text.

I’d also love past words to come up more frequently because I’m struggling to retain things, they aren’t quite sticking in my brain like from other apps. It’s easy to take in a lot and not go over them after the initial blitz.

Otherwise the app is amazing in function. It’s super easy to use and has a great free option with 5 or so mins a day. I also love they have Te Reo Māori in there, thank you for that!

I just wish those things were a bit better and then I’d be all in on drops.

Great for Professional Development

This app has been amazing!! As I am an early childhood education teacher in New Zealand, it is my responsibility to improve my proficiency in te reo Māori. I downloaded this app as I knew that I needed to improve, but doing it by myself in other ways was hard. This app has been supportive by teaching me new words and phrases that I can use in my daily teaching practice with NZ’s young children. I use the daily reminders function to ensure that I am consistently developing my proficiency in the language and it means that I do not have to scramble for time to make improvements.

I highly recommend this app!
