Flamingo Scooters 17+

I wasn’t sure what I thought about the multiple scooters parked randomly across the city, but I decided to give-them-a-go.
I used to cycle, but found the traffic increasingly intimidating, and Palmerston North’s love of round-abouts is tricky on a bike. What I love about scooters is that you can easily choose the road or footpath depending on what is safer.
I personally had a few hickups getting started with app glitches. I think the instruction videos need to make it clearer how to load payment details, and that you need to have data turned-on on your phone (blindingly obvious in hindsight!). Also, it was not easy to find out what the cost would be without actually loading the app. However, when I had glitches, my 0800 calls we quickly responded to, and the matter promptly sorted.
Overall I’m thoroughly enjoying the scooters, and enjoying the extra time in my day freed up from walking everywhere.

Three weeks in and enjoying all that Flamingo has to offer in Palmy. Subscription a good way to go, but would like to be able to carry over unused minutes to a max of 90 minutes, for the occasional day that needs more than 45 minutes of ride time. Also need more scooters in the fleet, I live within 3 km of city centre and often have to walk more than 10 minutes to get aboard the pink magic carpet.

On the whole, the app is good, but I have had a few problems with it:
Initially, I used an iPad and on two occasions I could not end my ride - the timer kept going and I kept paying (!). I could only end the ride by ringing the Flamingo helpline and they were helpful in ending the ride and making sure I wasn’t overcharged for the time I used the scooter.

Now I use an iPhone 7 and the only issue I’ve had so far is that I would end my ride outside the Wellington railway station in a zone which the app promises you don’t pay an unlock fee if you park in that zone, however on two occasions the GPS/tracker has failed to locate me in that zone and I have been unduly charged the $1 unlock fee.
