With apologies to the nice people at Oxford, dictionaries don’t usually look all that great. But LookUp is a dictionary for those with a penchant for aesthetics; the app delivers its daily definitions with illustrations that trigger both sides of your brain. Learn from a mahoosive collection of words like reticent, impresario, and mahoosive, which, we just learned, is really a word. Tap a card for pronunciations, origins, and synonyms; heart a word if you have a particular adulation for it.

Switches notifications in by default
Note, the notifications are switched on by default and there was no onboarding asking for permission. I didn’t even know this was possible on iOS, so perhaps it’s an Apple bug
The app itself is nice looking, if a little busy. Probably better as learning tool for building vocabulary than for general reference.

Hi! Thanks a lot for sharing the feedback.
Yes, we turn on the notifications by default, this is an implementation of iOS' silent notifications, since a Word of the Day notification doesn't require any urgent attention, we just deliver them to your Notification Center (without showing an alert or badge unless you tell us to) and hence don't require an onboarding for that. The idea is to not distract or come in the way of the users and yet provide something useful.
If you choose to ignore these notifications, iOS will automatically give you an option to turn them off. (Or you can also do that through our settings as well)
