MAPS.ME – Offline Map & Nav 4+

Returned to its original glory

After recently beautifying and rendering the app useless the developers have actually listened to all the negative feedback and rolled back the app to a more familiar and actually useful design - offline maps which is what most users would have actually got it for. As such this review (like the app) has gone from a scathing one star back to a five star.
It’s by no means perfect but as someone who is frequently in locales with poor or no internet the ability to have offline maps and navigation is indispensable.
To the developer: thanks for listening to feedback, in future try to remember what your apps’ core strengths and key features are, and work to enhance them rather that remove them. If we wanted online maps we could just use google.

We have read your comments and listened to your suggestions, and this new app version is a result of your valuable feedback.

The functionalities that have returned:

— Bookmarks with your personalized colors
— All maps and their points-of-interests
— Search functionality
— OSM data with granular details (hiking paths, building numbers, benches, and more)

We’ve also made some new improvements:

One thing we particularly focused on were your bookmarks. The bookmarks are places associated with your memories and highlights of your journeys, so we understand how valuable they are. With this update, all of your bookmarks are back as before! After downloading this update, you will enjoy both the familiar offline maps and our new improvements.

Great app for hiking/ traveling around the world

This is by far the best app I have downloaded for traveling. It’s help me explore cities that have no access to phone signal as well as find the basics easily such as an ATM or supermarket.

I have used it for multiple hiking destinations around the world such as; Camino De Santiago, Annapurna base camp, Appalachian trail and many walks throughout England, Wales and Scotland. I have had no problem downloading maps for these walks and have found that by deleting past maps it loads even faster. I have recommended this app to so many fellow travelers.

Incredible App

This is the greatest maps app, with clear, and easy-to-understand maps that are up-to-date. Great for all uses. The Offline Map feature is really useful when heading out in to the country, where there’s no cellphone reception.

My only suggestion is that a companion Apple CarPlay app be created so I can more easily and conveniently use the maps when driving out in the country. Everything else is perfect. 🙂
