We rely on this sleek, powerful note-taker to annotate documents, record lectures, sketch illustrations, and more. With built-in iCloud support, it’s perfect for keeping notes, documents, and doodles up to date on both iPhone and iPad.
Notability is amazing and worth all the money I’ve spent on it. As a University student I love the flexibility that this app has with lots of easy to use controls and most importantly, lots of backup options with iCloud syncing. I also paid extra for the search and handwriting recognition which is amazing as it allows me to search through text books in seconds for either my own handwriting or text in the book. I would really like to see them add a ruler and protractor tool as there have been times when drawing diagrams or doing assignments when I have needed to be more accurate but other than that I can’t complain about anything. If you need a note taking app, this is the one to get!
Fantastic app for a student with an Apple Pencil. Phenomenal support for a variety of document types (.pdfs, PowerPoint) to import directly as annotatable pages.Handwriting to math conversion is mind-boggling good, even with chicken scratchings. Some documentation for the syntax could be nice (if you’re that sort of nerd, you probably value precision).Snap-to parabolas, arcs, squares and polygons make graphing a dream.First-generation iPad Pros seem to struggle with losing touch focus after using an Apple Pencil for some time. This is supposedly a software issue relating to some of the first gen Pros, so who knows if it’ll ever be fixed.Could do with some more mouse support - at this price, why not. A little disappointed with the STEM sticker pack. There’s no 4 way axes, which seems a glaring omission considering the other inclusions in the pack. Bizarrely, the axes tick-marks don’t seem to line up with ANY of the provided square paper, which makes me wonder why it was included at all, much less charged for. I’d rather some more useful formulae stickers than pretty planets. These are minor complaints, and ones specific to my own experience. If you have an iPad and an Apple Pencil, this is an essential purchase.
The software, which used to have a buy-out system (including downloads and in-app purchases), was updated to the new version on November 1, 2021, and now has a free download + subscription system (the update announcement did not specify how the subscription system will be changed). For those who bought the software under a buyout, it will only be available for a free subscription for one year, with an additional subscription fee after that. This kind of behavior violates the purchase agreement already reached with the old user, belongs to the commercial fraud. Moreover, as a note-taking software, the unsubscribed free version has limited functions including "limited note editing", and even a dot will be recorded, which means that the use of free users will be greatly restricted, so the software is also suspected of inducing consumption. The official Apple platform has the responsibility and obligation to punish such behavior.
I got this app on both my iPad and MacBook and it is the best upgrade I’ve ever made to help with uni work. I can easily import my lecture slide PDFs into notability and then annotate them. Then later when I need to search through all my notes I have them all on my laptop and can search through the entire library for keywords, making it extremely easy to revise and find specific information. It might not be the cheapest option out there but it’s 100% worth your money and superior over all the other note taking apps I’ve tried.
Notability is such an easy to use app and integrates well into my studies! I have been using notability for the last 3 years and the app updates are always great. So easy to navigate and organise notes quickly and effectively. I use notability across both my laptop and iPad which helps a lot with integration. I use Notability to compile and edit lecture content from all of my classes. A lot of uni content (medicine) there is a large volume of information so the tools available in notability makes this process much easier.
Will randomly place cropped pieces of the document over the document when you scroll or zoom in or out. You have to manually remove them. Incredibly annoying and I am close to trying a new app to annotate pdfs. A huge shame because the app was amazing and simple before the update. Sure a pencil that you can do artworks with shading and adapts to the pressure and position of the pen you use is really cool, but not if it introduces bugs that breaks the usability of what the app was originally intended for.
Thanks for reaching out and apologies for the trouble. We released an update for this rendering issue. Can you update to 12.0.5? That should nudge things into order. Thank you for using Notability and we appreciate your patience with us.
