NZ COVID Tracer is the Ministry of Health’s official contact tracing mobile app. It helps you protect your friends, whānau and community by enabling faster contact tracing.
Register your contact information so contact tracers can get in touch if they need to.
Help contact tracing go faster by creating a private digital diary of the places you visit. Scan the official QR codes wherever you see them and add manual entries for your visits to other places.
Sign up for contact alerts in case you’ve checked into a location at the same time as someone with COVID-19.
Share your digital diary with contact tracers if you’re found to have COVID-19. This will help us identify whether any of your friends, whānau or community members may have also been exposed, so we can respond quickly and stop any further spread of the virus in New Zealand.
The Ministry of Health has worked closely with the Privacy Commissioner and independent security experts during the development of NZ COVID Tracer to ensure your privacy and data security are protected.
Any information you decide to record with NZ COVID Tracer will be stored securely on your phone and deleted automatically after 60 days. Any personal information you choose to share with contact tracers will be used only for public health purposes and never for enforcement.
Visit www.health.govt.nz/NZ-COVID-Tracer for further information.
With this release, contact tracers can now ask you to confirm your name and contact details when sending out a contact alert, so they can get in touch with you about a specific exposure event. Your privacy remains protected - it is your choice whether you respond or not.

Play but plenty of opportunity to improve
As a developing application, this has started okay. It has provided the ministry with Kerry contact details but it doesn’t give the opportunity to link with your national health if, a further improvement or capability.
It also needs the ability to manually load in details of where you have been so you don’t need to keep separate diaries or paper records.
I actually found it difficult to find a business in our area using the MOH QR image. Many businesses are using other applications and it has become quite confusing how they all work. For this so to be effective, All businesses need to be encouraged to use the one Covid QR coding system and it should be easy to do that.

Kia ora. We appreciate that the number of different QR codes on display at a business may cause confusion. We recently provided information to the developers of other apps to enable their codes to be compatible. Over time this will reduce the number of QR codes displayed by each business. For example, the Rippl app has been updated to be compatible.
Tried it at Noel Leeming Botany. Nothing happened or did it. Staff said oh it doesn't work. Days later at another branch nothing happened to indicate if it registered. When i left tried it again several times. Then a message popped up indicating i was there an hour ago(when i arrived). Why is there no confirmation or even a camera click to inform me what’s happening when i use of try to use app? Went in to app. Nowhere there can i see where i have been and used the app. Doesn’t record anything. So don’t know. Had lunch at cafe. No registration of any sort. 2 different Harvey Norman. No registration of any sort. Pak n Save Countdown New World Bunnings, none had any tracing. Staff advised they were too big so not required to. If an infected person was in any such place will they publicly announce it and identify premises to alert us all? The whole thing is a nasty joke.?

Kia ora. Thanks for your feedback. In the "scan" section of the app, there's an icon at the top left of the screen that looks a bit like a clock, this is where you find the history. We are working with businesses and community organisations to facilitate their getting QR codes.
Worse than before
The app shouldnt be this hard to use. Apparently I have already signed up but when I try and reset my password this account doesn’t exist. Joke of an app.
Resolved the above issue. Don’t ask me what I did but after spending about 30 minutes trying to create an account/reset password I gave up. Then had a final crack the next day. A out of nowhere it accepted me email address to create an account.
But out of no where after working for a while and scanning codes reliably, now it flat out doesn’t work. Throws an error every time. Login log out doesn’t resolve. For a contact tracing app that the govt is relying on for accurate information for a pandemic and controlling the spread, the nicest thing I can say about it is it’s unreliable. Fragments of data are worthless. Miss one contact and we could have another cluster. If it doesn’t work it shouldn’t be the one we are relying on.
