The desktop programme is great but the app is lacking. It would be great if the awaiting confirmation transactions could also be seen in the app to categorise on the go. Really makes the app useless otherwise. Also the app is usually 4-5 days behind in transactions compared to the online version. So actually I don’t use the app because I can’t do much in it.

Thanks for the review. I have some good news for you about confirming your transactions! It is already possible to do this in the current version, you just need to add the transaction confirming widget to your dashboard 😀 The transactions in the mobile app should match the transactions you can view in the web app. It might be because your bank feeds are synced automatically when you log into the web app whilst this isn't currently the case with the mobile apps. Again, I have some good news about this! The next version which will be released shortly will automatically sync your bank feeds and show their status ✨

Useless & Waste of Money

The website is far too complicated, and the app is far too oversimplified to the point of being absolutely useless. Especially if you don’t receive income of the first day of the calendar month. Who gets paid on the 1st of the month!? No one I know.
Regardless it is completely out of one’s control the day of the month they get paid. So budget feature is redundant. The app is entirely based on a rigid calendar instead of on the user’s needs.

Also extremely frustrated that the graphs don’t show anything longer than the passed 30 days. Useless. If I want a micro-view of my finances I’ll look at my banking app. I was subscribed to the service to sync my bank feed because I’ve been looking for such a service for years. However when I didn’t open the app for a while it stopped syncing! And there was no way to get it to sync the missed transactions. Complete waste of money if you specifically paid for the syncing function to work, and then have to load in manually anyway, when that’s what you have to do on the free version.

All I want is simple auto-categorisation of my spending so I can see accurate, historical data automatically (for more than the passed 30 days). Being able to manage the category’s tier system would be great to zoom in and out of that level of detail too.

Had such high hopes for this – that’s why I’m so disappointed. If these issues are fixed I might try it again if I don’t find something that actually works, in the meantime.

Hi Simone, thanks for taking the time to clarify your expectations, and we're sorry you feel they weren't met. As a matter of fact, PocketSmith actually does do all of what you've been looking for: you can budget on any day and period you wish; graphs go back as far as you want; and bank feeds sync on a schedule as well as more frequently based on when you sign in. We'd love to help you get the most of PocketSmith, so please drop us a line 😀

Remember: it’s a mobile app

Long gone are the days when fascination at holding the internet in your hand takes priority. Why does this matter? Because expectations run limitless, and that wouldn’t be a fair conclusion to draw about the app for this BRILLIANT platform.

The PocketSmith web app is a sight to behold. Coming from a software developer with years of experience across web and mobile development, it is not easy. Not only do you need to be remarkably skilled, but the line that businesses walk in deciding how complex to make their mobile app is ever-changing and hard to pick.

Does this app do everything the website does? Not by a long shot. Should you be able to do every single thing you can on a 27” screen with a keyboard on something that fits in your pocket? I seriously don’t think so. If you need to adjust the end period of one of your budgets in one of your many categories but keep a roll over period (...you get the idea), you should be on a computer.

As far as apps go, sign in is a breeze, the colours are cohesive with their brand, and it is by no means over complicated (which could be worse than being too simple).

If you’re like me and you need to know whether you can drop a cool $50 on takeaways, look no further. Thank you to PocketSmith for developing such a stable and intuitive platform.
