This application serves as a virtual tour guide for the Ruapekapeka pa site. It shows several points of interest around the track and will notify you when you reach one by vibrating your device and giving the call of a Kiwi.
There are a range of experiences offered at each site:
- Text that gives information about the point of interest and the history of the battle
- An augmented reality experience where you can fire the destroyed carronade at the British forward position
- An augmented reality experience that brings the extinct Huia bird back to life.
Each will be triggered automatically based on your GPS location. The carronade experience requires you to point your camera at the plaque mounted on the back which will show an augmented overlay. The huia bird representes a Kaitiaki that will follow you on your journey around the pa site, requiring you to initially point your camera at the ground.
