Very limited app

Updated review
I reviewed this several months ago during the beta release and a free trial, giving it 2 out of 5. Coming back to it recently not much has changed.

On the plus side:
-Picture quality is good on my iPhone and laptop. There are occasional pauses for buffering but nothing serious with my 100mbs fibre connection. That is the plus points done with.

On the negative side:
- There is no search function meaning it is difficult to find what you want quickly.
- There is no way to identify the sports and events of interest to you meaning the home page is dominated with irrelevant content.
- Sound consistently becomes out of sync with the picture. The longer the event the greater the difference. For example, at the end of a 2 hour Grand Prix this is a 5 to 10 second difference. Reloading the stream doesn’t fix it.
- It is impossible to purchase access for individual sports events. You need to pay full price for everything even if you don’t want it. Interested in a particular grand prix or football match but don’t want to pay for the whole service? Tough. Pay for everything or get nothing. It is an outdated business model which doesn’t fit a streaming service.

I still cannot recommend this product. It needs significant improvements to deliver and consistent product and pricing model which welcomes those with a passing interest to watch instead of serving die hard fans.

Has potential but needs work to make it stable

After taking a while to resolve account issues, in the first F1 practice session the app crashed once, failed to stream another time and during the course of the whole session repeatedly had the audio cutting out. I’m watching on high speed connection so i doubt the issue from my connection. The app interface is decent, though you have to manage account externally to the app and appears to require a pc - it couldn’t change app settings on phone browser. There is good potential but this is clearly an early release. By the way, quite nice to have so many 5 star reviews before the app even went live which are clearly bogus. Rather than patting yourselves on the back, please work on improving it! There’s no way this is close to 5 stars and you know it.

Quality options?

So let me get this straight; you offer us a limited data internet plan, which is tight and expensive as is, and now you’re having us watch sport using said limited service, with no obvious quality options? As far as I can tell, the only options you offer are subtitles, and the quality is automatic. I fear once sport really picks up again you’ll be charging customers on your limited plan a fair bit because of your shoddy app design, and it’s really disappointing. I respect that Spark is trying to lead sport coverage into the future, but the medium being used should’ve had a fair bit of refining well before any real sport events (especially ones that we can’t watch on Sky anymore) took place - case in point RWC 2019.
