An initial version of Talk Town. Customisable avatar with multiple hearing device and identity options; school, movies, driving school, hairdressers and party scenes.

Each location in Talk Town requires social skills that are unique to Deaf and Hard of Hearing young people - Talk Town is a safe and fun place to try out different approaches.

Players choose an avatar, including what (if any) hearing devices they use and how they would like to identify themselves. Players then chose to go to the movies with their friends, visit the hairdressers and go to school. Once all of the other scenes are completed, players can go to the party... where they will have to use all of the skills they have learned to make new friends, and show off their dance moves!

Talk Town was developed by an Audiologist and Speech and Language Therapist who are passionate about empowering deaf kids. The game design utlises the best available research evidence, and real-life experiences of deaf kids and adults.

Easy, fun and effective

This is a really useful app for helping kids gain the skills and confidence to communicate effectively in everyday social situations. I would like to see it taken up by schools, not just to help deaf pupils but also to help their classmates understand the importance of their role as well.
