No better than others
App does adequate job, i.e., if will get you from A to B but how efficiently and “legally” is a while other issue. Speed limits and roading are out of date for my parts of my city not to mention rural areas by over 24 months! It insists on routing me through the city centre rather than around it, at peak times (and suggests the wrong speed limit). It also often routes me ACROSS major roads when there is a light controlled junction only one block away. So, as a general route it’s fine but very sadly lacking in other aspects.
Good, but has the potential to be great....
I’ve been using Apple CarPlay for a few months now, & whilst it is good, there are a couple of things that would make this a great app....1/ Sometimes searching on CarPlay is slow, and/or sometimes shows no results. But put the same search using the app on the phone, & the results are immediate? 2/ The spoken instructions are minimal ‘Keep right’, ‘Exit ahead’, etc.... I often find myself having to look at the screen for a split second, when my eyes should be on the road. I would like something said like ‘take exit number, signposted.....’, or ‘Turn left onto ‘..... Road’. Remember when using navigation, in most cases, a driver won’t know the roads. So being able to hear clear spoken instructions, with informative information, mean eyes can remain on the road.
Lack of flexibility
Having owned numerous Tom Tom GPS units through the years, the new format has some good features, like the route bar and it’s traffic warnings.
The old products had far mor flexibility and features. Colour selection for better visibility on motorcycles where sun and reflection is a constant is highly limited and sometimes practically non visible. The speed camera button will only work once in every 10 tries. So much for assisting other travellers.
Quick selection buttons disappeared with the new button and only “home” and “work” still exist.
The GPS is slow to the point of being irritating.
