Big Shot Boxing

Can you become the greatest?

VIEW

There are four rounds – and one massive bruiser who wants to punch you in the face – standing between you and eternal glory. You ask yourself if you’re ready, and you know you are. This is what you’ve been training for. This is your destiny.

Like any good boxing film, Big Shot Boxing is all about the underdog story. The rags to riches rise of a young upstart – you – on the way to the heavyweight title. That, and knowing when to swing a punch, and when to cower behind your gloves.

Powerful hands and a strong chin (two things you can upgrade with the winnings from your last fight) are only going to get you so far in the latest game from developer Colin Lane, an expert at engagingly out there sports-based arcade games.

Compared to his past hits Touchdowners and Dunkers 2, Big Shot Boxing is more about the method, less about the madness. But that’s not to say this game isn’t incredibly fun. Far from it.

It’s still all about flailing those oversized arms, but now you need some control. When a single punch can put you on the canvas, you’ll quickly learn to pick your moments and spot the opportune time to block a punch before instantly countering with a sharp cross or punishing uppercut.

You jab to move forward, block to slide back and throw a flurry of attacks somewhere in the middle. You’ll need patience, precision and a bit of luck to make it to the top, with the game finding the perfect balance between those three elements.

Big Shot Boxing will have you leaning in to your device, wincing and holding your breath as the tension builds and both you and your opponent are on the ropes.

Now, to finish that massive slugger. Fight!
