Description

New England’s early burial grounds are a treasure trove of art. Carved in the 17th and 18th centuries by mostly anonymous stone workers, many of the markers in these graveyards are embellished with expressive, often eccentric, images. We bring you a selection of 28 faces from these stones, the ancestors of today’s emojis, plus 7 bonus images formatted to use as iMessage stickers.
