Description

On-Device database of 5 million spammers updated daily

Per the FTC (https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2023/02/new-ftc-data-show-consumers-reported-losing-nearly-88-billion-scams-2022), nearly $8.8 billion was lost by consumers like you to scams in 2022. More than half these scams relied on calls to initiate contact. This app builds an on-device database of the latest spam callers reported to the FTC (usually via https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/assistant). And also bolsters this spam database with numbers from trusted third parties. The app refreshes this database on your phone daily in the background. All these steps require no input from you. Merely enable the app in your phone's Settings. We do all the heavy lifting in the background for you.

So, what does it mean to you when a spam number is added by the app to your phone? The spammer is completely blocked from your phone. You will not see a missed call or a phone notification. Nothing appears in your call logs too. The longer the app runs on your phone, the larger is the spam database. In the latest update, daily database updates include the spammiest area codes we have culled in our analysis of millions of the latest spam calls. You do not need to perform any manual steps to update your database. We run in the background silently.

You may be wondering - shouldn't I get a second number to forward such spam calls? Isn't a second number "safer" than maintaining a local database on my phone?
Actually, no! We highly recommend against transferring all your voicemails & calls to a possibly insecure, unreliable third-party VOIP service providing such second number services. Spam Caller ID does not alter your voicemail. It stays secure on your device. Also, important phone calls from your doctor or car mechanic or schools or for your local biz which are unanswered are forwarded as usual to your voicemail. You don't miss important calls from sources not in your contacts.

One last thing....does Spam Caller ID block ALL spam calls? It does block 100% of the spammers reported to the FTC. If any spam calls do go thru our defenses & appear in your call logs, you can forward a screenshot of your missed call logs via the app. You can use the default screenshot editor to cross out any calls you do not wish to report to us. We will report the reported spam numbers to the FTC (at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/assistant). And update your on-device database on the next refresh.
