Description

Requires iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 or newer. Play the first part for free. Get access to the full game with an in-app purchase.

Play as the commander of an emergency response team after a disaster at a secret lab, hidden deep in the arctic region. Your task is to cover up and maximize profits for the Xenowerk corporation, or to save the world, depending on whom you ask...

EXPLORE
Deploy squads on expeditions into the infected zone. Explore a ferocious landscape scattered with remnants of Xenowerk's absurd research facilities. Use skills, traits and mutations to mitigate the dangers, horrors and mishaps during your journeys.

Push your operatives to the limit, not to waste any precious time. Explore jungles, swamps, laboratories, shelters and factories. Scavenge for valuable resources. Carry out various missions. Secure strategic safe zones. Find and rescue M.I.A. operatives.

FIGHT
Control your squad in real-time combat against hordes of mutants. Use operative skills and mutations, such as Frag Grenade, Bait & Trap, Adrenaline, Pyrokinesis and much more, to skew the odds in your favor. Activate Tactical Pause at any time to give more detailed orders.

MANAGE
Recruit and evolve Marines, Rangers and Scientists as your operatives. But choose wisely, some may obtain dubious traits or mutations.

Spend gathered resources to enhance your base of operations; Barracks, Recruitment, Field hospital, Armory, etc. Spend earnings on treatments, upgrades and recruitment.

Cater for the whims of the Xenowerk Management to keep getting funded. Earn some extra cash-under-the-table by selling off resources on the Black Market. Or maybe try to save the world...

XCOM arcade

A faster paced, less serious XCOM. The settings sometimes feels too empty (no tree animations, no environmental hazards; maybe precarious rocks on outdoor sets and exposed wires, exposed explosive ordinance in the base interiors, etc). The enemies have simple rush tactics; you’re fighting mutant zombie things here, not aliens (I think. I could be wrong). It would be nice to get a little more info about the monsters you’re fighting here. The missions are alright enough, until you get to the part where you can choose to ferry B-list celebrity tourists across your experimental island “paradise”—these missions are fun to do, provide a bit of an extra challenge and give you a good chunk of money to spend, if you do them properly (hint: make the tourists do selfies with the mutants).

I’ve communicated with at least 3 factions you could appease or piss off though I haven’t seen much consequences aside from angering your parent company and they can choose to cut off a little bit of funding.

There’s a bit of chunky base building fun to be had here, but it would be nice if the upgrades were visually represented here (i.e., an upgraded barracks could have a second floor, maybe?)

Your troops also mutate and upgrade. Some mutations are redundant and useless, (for the devs: a ranger gets predator instinct. They have two infinite use hostiles radars..? whut.), other mutations are cool and powerful (I got me a purokinetic!), while others are just meh (camouflage ability feels useless. It’s an action game and I don’t see the use of a camouflage ability, unless it’s avoiding ambushes on the map).

It’s alright so far. First run made me stay up until 3am.

TLDR: Quality stuff. Could use some improvements, but I can see myself enjoying my stay on the island.
