Old App was much, much better! Stay Away!

The previous Yale app worked just fine on my iPhone. The new one has been rolled out and has to be running to be able to continue using the “smart” features of our Yale lock set. It is a poor replacement. The first issue, as another reviewer has mentioned, is that this app is now geofenced. You can only download if your iPhone account has you in the Philippines. So now I have to make a special account just for this silly little app. Just another example of the poor customer service and experience provided in the Philippines.

Trying to setup the account again with the new app has been nothing but a headache. So much so that I’m trying convince my wife that we buy a different lock- definitely not from Assa Abloy, the owners of the Yale brand.

If I had known the hassle I’d have with the Yale YDM7116A lock with the app, I would’ve stayed clear of purchasing it. Lesson learned for next time: the lock may be “smart” but the people making the decisions for the app are not.

Don’t Buy Yale

Instead of just updating their existing app that was working perfectly fine, they’re forcing everyone to download a brand new app to avoid getting locked out of their home permanently. To make matters worse, the new app isn’t even available in all regions, so you have to switch your Apple account to a fake region in to download it.
